What is Spiritual Direction?
Spiritual Direction has often been called “Holy Listening”. It is an opportunity to invite someone else into your spiritual journey as you seek to listen and respond to the voice and movement of God in your life. I like to define it as “a gentle noticing—a way of pausing, looking, and paying attention that opens us to the opportunity and experience of seeing and hearing God.
Spiritual Direction or spiritual companionship is a ministry of presence and listening. It’s an opportunity to grow into a deeper and more intimate relationship with God.
My Approach — As a spiritual director or spiritual companion, I believe God is at work in every area of our lives. This includes our relationships, our work, our leisure, and our quiet spaces. God is also present in our doubts, our questions, our frustrations, and our pain, as well as in our certainty, our joy, and our healing. In spiritual direction, it is my desire to come alongside you as you open yourself (heart, mind, and soul) to the voice and movement of God in your life and as you discern and respond to God’s invitations to you.
Through prayer, scripture, silence, and spiritual practices, I hope to provide a time and place for you to be still, to listen, to notice, and to open yourself to all that God has for you.
“He who began a good work in your will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 1:6
Frequently Asked Questions….
What happens in a typical Spiritual Direction Session?
A spiritual direction session typically takes place once per month and each session is an hour long. The session likely begins with a time of prayer, scripture, and/or silence. After that, the time is yours. You determine the topic and the agenda. It’s your time to share, process, and bring whatever is on your heart to God.

What Spiritual Direction is NOT:
Spiritual Direction is not counseling. It is not advice giving or problem solving. In Spiritual Direction we are not trying to solve specific problems, but rather to notice and respond to God. Spiritual Direction is also not mentoring, discipling, teaching, or Bible study.
